I tried this and got the following result:
When contact changes status from invisible he goes online in my list. Any
status change after that causes him to show up as offline.
Network log shows "XXX went offline." regardless of which status he
changes to.
If contact goes offline and than reconnects I just get another "XXX went
offline.".
