Darnit. I had this error before and thought I had it fixed. For some reason the "**/*" include in the archetype-metadata.xml doesn't match the default.html file. I've fixed it (again?) and pushed the changes. It should show up in a new build soon. In the meantime what you did should work fine, since the default.html is cribbed from the basic archetype anyway.
