I've wanted to try a solid-state disk for a while. All but the cheapest systems you can buy these days are Core 2 Duo with 2+ GB of decently fast RAM (i.e. you can get a decent dual-core laptop with 2 GB of RAM that will run Ubuntu like a champ for ~$500). It seems like the real way to boost performance on a machine like that is to get a much faster disk.
