You should use a SessionVar or a stateful snippet.
Here's how you would use a SessionVar,
object lastSubmittedDate extends SessionVar[Date](new Date)
...
bind(...,
"date" -> SHtml.text(lastSubmittedDate.is, lastSubmittedDate(_),
