One thing I've suggested (to no one in particular) is that new houses
should be built with e-mail terminals built in someplace. Houses could
even be ordered with extra e-mail terminals. If you get a letter addressed
to the kids, it goes to their e-mail terminal in their rooms. How much
daily mail do we get that really needs to be printed? The only time we
really need paper mail is when we receive credit cards or something like
that. Is it really necessary to receive a printed phone bill? Wouldn't it
be nice to have an integrated telephone system in the house which
automatically compares for discrepancies when the telephone e-bill arrives?
You then sit at your terminal and enter a date which money can be drawn
from your checking account to pay for the phone charges, unless phone
charges become free sometime soon! :) :)
Anyway, there are lots of ideas that construction contractors could
implement in building better houses. Computers are much less expensive
than they used to be, and how expensive would it really be to install
touch-screen computers in homes for e-mail? It would definitely drop the
price of touch-screen monitors and I wouldn't mind having one sometimes,
particularly if I could mount the monitor down inside the desk, perhaps on
a bracket which would allow it to prop up at an angle so I could rest my
head in my hands and gaze into the screen and point... or even keep it flat
under the desk. I'd love that!
