Dear Damon,
I have lived 48 years on this earth and have learned that there is
nothing free. All things come at a price, whether they be mental, physical
or spiritual. Whether we receive is totally dependent upon what we are
willing to "do" to "get".
Money is the price for the physical realm, at least the main source,
bartering can also be used in many areas. You can have your trip
to Alaska if you are willing to work for it and be patient until you get
the money to take it. Now it may mean going without, but then that
would be the price you would have to pay. All things have a purpose
and contain a lesson.
I learned the lesson about money years ago. If one feels poor then
no amount of money will ever change that feeling. My uncle is a prime
example. I had a conversation with him about a year ago. He was moaning
because he only had $25,000.00 socked away in the bank. The man
was 93 years old, and I asked him what he wanted that would cost more
than that. He didn't want anything, in fact he lived a very miserly
existence.
However, in case of that "rainy" day he would feel more secure with more
money. I asked him what possible storm could come along, since his
health was insured, along with all of his other worldly possessions. He
couldn't answer this, other than to say he would feel more secure with
"more" money. Okay, I could accept that, so how much money would
make him feel "secure"?, I asked. He started out with $100,000 and by
the time five minutes had passed he had upped it to $300,000. By the
end of that conversation he was a bit stymied, because he realized that
in today's economy perhaps even $300,000 was not enough. I explained
to him that when one felt insecure materially there would never be enough
to take that feeling away (which is why some very rich people are obsessed
with making money).
Now this man owned his own home, cars and had no bills, other than
the day to day existence. His home needed paint and some structural work
which would have cost a couple thousand. He fretted and worried all the
time about these things, but was not willing to put out the cash to fix them.
He died about six months ago without ever experiencing that rainy day, and
the house he fretted so much about will now have to have the work done so
that it can be sold, but he will not be around to enjoy it.
I don't worry about the system, for I am rich. I have been "dirt poor"
before
by the standards of our society, so I know what it is like, which was very
valuable. It was valuable because it taught me a lesson I could not have
learned otherwise. There are ways around everything if one takes the time
to find them. It is all about attitude and perception. I have no money
issues
now, but I have learned to appreciate everything, take nothing for granted,
and recycle, recycle, recycle. It isn't because I am "cheap", but because I
cannot bear to waste anything and further burden this planet with garbage.
As far as the material plane, I think Donald Trump said it best (after losing
a fortune, only to regain it); "I still have everything within me to make a
for-
tune that I had to start with, and I will just go out and do it again", and
he did.
Be careful what you wish for, and be sure you are willing to pay the
price to get it, then sail away on your boat to Alaska...............
Love and Peace,
Lorri O:)
