I am trying to add my domain user to the local /etc/group sambashare. I
have tried the following:
sambashare:x:124:MYDOMAIN\\myuser
sambashare:x:124:MYDOMAIN\myuser
sambashare:x:124:myuser
and group through group association:
sambashare:x:124:MYDOMAIN\\domain^users
sambashare:x:124:MYDOMAIN\domain^users
sambashare:x:124:domain^users
So far, nothing. No matter what I do, when I log back in, I am not part
of sambashare group and I do not have access to directories owned by the
sambashare group.
Anybody have any suggestions for me please?
Hey Mark,
The following is valid:
sambashare:x:124:MYDOMAIN\myuser
After you log back in, does 'id' show all of you domain groups?
Also, do you have nscd running? If so, it may be caching old
group information.

So I have the following right now in /etc/group:
sambashare:x:124:MYDOMAIN\mbeierl
I ssh to the desktop, and enter id:
mbei...@mark-desktop:~$ id
uid=2100825152(mbeierl) gid=2100822529(domain^users) groups=2100822529(domain^users),2100823202(customer^solutions),2100823207(developers),2100825223(media^exchange^users),2100826904(pptp-users),2100826908(sslvpn-users),2100826912(ipsecvpn-users)
I try groups:
mbei...@mark-desktop:~$ groups
domain^users customer^solutions developers media^exchange^users pptp-users sslvpn-users ipsecvpn-users
mbei...@mark-desktop:~$ ls -l /var/lib/samba/
total 244
<...>
drwxrwx--T 2 root sambashare 4096 2009-06-18 11:50 usershares
mbei...@mark-desktop:~$ ls -l /var/lib/samba/usershares/
ls: cannot open directory /var/lib/samba/usershares/: Permission denied
I am quite baffled at this point...
So, I followed a thread from the Ubuntu forums
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=929940) which suggested using
the pam group configuration to assign groups to users on login.
Problem with that though is that EVERYONE who logs in gets membership
to the groups specified. It still does not allow me to restrict local
groups to specific domain groups.
To summarize: I've found a passable workaround, and Likewise members
cannot be made part of a group by using /etc/group.
Regards,
Mark
