Now claiming this definitively fixed. The patchy run I've just doen results  
in a logfile with no "overful hbox" problems, and so there are now no black  
sidebars in the NR.  To verify, please simply check the commitish.  Issue  
1691 can be used to verify the lack of sidebars.
