I just checked tyopgraphy-demo.ly, utf-8.ly and other regtests that  
have "utf" in the name or description text, in both HTML and PDF in version  
2.16 on lilypond.org, and Japanese, Cyrillic and other accented characters  
and diacritics appeared to me correctly rendered.
