Are you sure this isn't the other way round? There is some motivation for
having an English version on letter paper (though most of the
English-speaking world is _not_ affiliated with the U.S.A.), but it seems
quite absurd to use letter paper for German.
"A4" would not be the "preferred" option for German speakers, but the only
one making any sense. The German-speaking Amish communities in the U.S.A.
are not likely to meddle much with computer typesetting.
