Thanks for the speedy diagnosis. I'll revert the patch (fixing this
problem) but keep this issue open for the sake of having a separate issue
for the fixed version of the bar-line patch.
Either the patch relied on a side effect (I explicitly pointed out that it
shortcircuits some calculations if they don't change the nominal result),
or the rewrite was incorrect.
