0001 and 0002 LGTM. My only slight concern with 0003 is that I don't know
if os.getenv() is case-sensitive, since my vague recollection was that the
build system set up "DEPTH" rather than "depth". My recollection could be
wrong.
I see no reason why these can't go to a countdown, though.
