I'm with Werner here: the information is already in the input, no need for
separate commands.
I would suggest that the repeat iterator/engraver announces grobs like
RepeatBegin, AlternativeEnd, and the Slur engraver and Tie engraver (and
their friends, the performers) acknowledge them by cloning the appropriate
grobs into them (in a grobarray or similar) where the repeat engraver can
pick them up and properly typeset them.
