quantized accent positioning

Take a look at the output of
\relative c'' {
c8-. c-. c(-. d)-.
\override Script #'avoid-slur = #'outside
c8-. c-. c(-. c)-.
}
The staccato dots are badly interacting with the top staff line for the
last quarter note.
Also the difference in beam positioning for both beams makes no discernible
sense at all.
