A follow-up to the previous post...
To keep things consistent and boring, I can imagine a suite of commands
like:
\startBrokenBeam
\stopBrokenBeam
\breakBeamHere
\startBrokenHairpin
\endBrokenHairpin
\breakHairpinHere
etc. for all spanners. It is a systematic and predictable way to deal with
breaking spanners at arbitrary places. And, in all of these cases, it
deals the problem of not being able to start a piece with:
[ a8 b c ]
or
< a b c\!
etc.. by not using post events for indicating broken spanners.
