Turns out iterators don't run start_translation_timestep, so this always
makes measurePosition negative as opposed to the description (not advancing
the bar number even if a bar has been started before \partial). Also it
isn't quite clear to me why the last attempt should have failed: I'll have
to look closer at the involved regtest.
