I got my logic reversed at the end of that last sentence. It looks as if
the Arabic text returns ScriptIsComplex() == FALSE (while Arabic text does
need shaping depending on context).
The example above renders with (coarsely) shaped Arabic and kerned Roman on
Linux, but as attached on Windows.
