I'm not sure I see the point here. The input language of LilyPond is utf-8. I think that all editors nowadays should be able to deal with utf-8, right?

While I can see that it is possible to use french notenames while maintaining a purely 7-bit ASCII file (apart from \language "français"), I don't see the benefit of that. When would that be an advantage?
