The Gould example is very artificial and thus ugly, it doesn't reflect the
German typographic tradition IMHO. However, I agree that the accent could
be *slightly* smaller horizontally.
On the other hand, I think that the tenuto line in LilyPond is often
vertically too close to the note head, which irritates me more than a too
large accent glyph...
