People insist on improving the tagging infrastructure - which is a good
thing but doesn't help with my case.
Since LilyPond should be useful for more than just single use cases and the
_basic_ problem seems to be one that tagging is supposed to be good for, it
would be helpful if you tried to help with figuring out which changes in
the "tagging infrastructure" would actually make a difference regarding
your case.
As far as I can tell, your main concern is that you want an off-by-default
tagging construct. This can either be achieved by having a default list of
tags to remove for a document, or by having something other than a \tag for
marking constructs.
Can you try helping to flesh out a solution where you can comfortably
say "this fits my use case reasonably straightforwardly" without arriving
at something _only_ useful for a single purpose?
