I believe the option added in issue 4198 addresses the need that inspired
this request and that no more control is required over this aspect of
setting hymns. (There remain issues with solo passages that can not be
addressed simply by hiding the partcombine texts, but those are outside the
scope of this ticket.)
Also, note that to match the style of the example given above, not just
notes on the same space/line but also seconds should be set with opposing
stems. For example, see the top staff in measure 7 of
http://freehymnal.com/png/alonewithgod.png.
