I suggest that there would be some kind of coding conventions for
LilyPond, as there are for most programming languages (c, java). Those
conventions would advise how to make the writing more intuitive.

For example,

  Prefer "<a b>" instead of "< a b >", or vice versa?
  Attach slurs to notes they begin (end) : "a( )b" instead of "a () b".
  Indent using x character. Comment at ... etc.

That would help the writer and the reader of a work to follow the
notation.
