Well... I would suggest another approach...
I haven't time to do this until tuesday - but I think that your approach
will run out of control - like what if one wants a "|." before break and
a "|:" after, etc, etc, etc...
What we imho need is a possibility for only setting one of the bar-lines
at the break point... Syntax like
\bar #'("||" . nil)
or something...
Setting only one of the bars should then use the default for the other
one - so that
\bar #'("||" . nil) \break \repeat volta ..
would produce the desired result... Cannot just see whether this will be
easy or impossible to imnplement, though... :)
