I'm building 2.4.0 on a pretty brand new Debian Sid system, so I had to
install some things. One thing that neither INSTALL.txt nor
./configure caught that I didn't have was guile-devel. The error from
make was:
g++ -shared -o out/midi.so out/midi.lo -lguile -lguile-ltdl -lqthreads -lpthread
-lcrypt -lm
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lguile
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[1]: *** [out/midi.so] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/lconrad/src/lilypond/lilypond-2.4.0/python'
make: *** [all] Error 2
