George,

since a few weeks fontforge creates OS/2 tables version 3 instead of
version 1. Please make this configurable (so that I can control it
within a script) or revert it! Reason is that this change triggers a
bug in gs 8.53: During conversion to PDF with ps2pdf, TrueType fonts
with OS/2 table version 3 won't be embedded as TrueType fonts but
converted to Type 3 fonts.

Sigh.

The very example is the the Century Schoolbook family which lilypond
converts from Type 1 to TTF (using FontForge), and which is then
embedded as Type 42 fonts into the output.

Han-Wen, is there any reason why we don't convert the Century fonts to
OTF, similar to the lilypond fonts? This would be another solution to
circumvent the bug.

It's amazing: During the development of lilypond we have, IIRC,
discovered five gs bugs or so. I've just submitted a bug report
(http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=688678).

    Werner
