The first rule a Windows user should be taught is "do NOT use cygwin". I did manage to run git on cygwin, but it's a hell of a no-go. Cygwin is completely deprecated, whereas MinGW seems to somehow keep up. The msysGit is a really nice Windows app, with a GUI, an installer, and above all a real, native, working git system. I liked the idea of a "preparing parts" tag, though; not for doc integration obviously, but just for a nice list of potentially useful items.
