Good idea.  After all other comments in this thread, I propose to

- merge news.ihtml and old-news.html into a single file news.html in the
sources,

- generate news.ihtml with 4 top items: with release announceements and
weekly LilyPond reports, I'd like to have the possibility to mark some
news items like Japanese translation with a 'sticky' attribute, so they
stay visible for a month,

- generate old-news.html with other items,

- use xsltproc (from libsxlt package) to convert 20 first news items
from HTML to RSS with a xslt stylesheet.  Is it easy to make libxslt
available on lilypond.org?
