Vertical lines of dots can be done with \bar":", but \bar"." produces a single centered dot... If you guys can come up with an example of a single centered dot used as bar line, I would propose renaming \bar "." to \bar "dot" (and adding a conversion rue), but otherwise I'm all for scrapping it completely.
