Why does this surprise you? If you think of R1*20 as a repetition -- as you
claim to -- then this should be exactly according to your expectations: the
whole-note MMR is repeated 20 times, and the following note (d) "inherits" the
duration (whole note) from the previous object (the MMR).
That being said, it does bring the internal workings into question…
