A rewrite sounds good, but I heavily discourage openoffice. Just
write a text file:
Blah blah blah
\relative c' {
c4 d e f
}
blah blah blah lah balah
#(special-thingie)
\relative c' {
d4 d3\special {mao} h7
}
then send it to James Lowe. He will deal with texinfo for you.
