To check this theory, can you checkout master, do a

revert 1c8ae9fb4170bb2566c2acb1a11155c23c12cfdc

and then do the testing?

Afterwards, do

git reset --hard origin

again so that your revert does not stick around.  Depending on your
results, we might pick a suitable course of action.
