Hi, here's the first issue of LilyPond's weekly "Busy Developer's Summary". Its aim is to help people that are too busy to read all LilyPond emails to keep up with the most important stuff; this week seems to be particularly dense in this regard. Enjoy!
WHAT IMPORTANT HAPPENED Graham Percival announced that he resigns the position of Project Manager. He doesn't quit entirely, but his activity will be reduced to 1-2 hrs a week. http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-devel/2012-10/msg00398.html Mike Solomon got engaged and is planning a wedding (congratulations!). As a result he's not active for some time. http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-devel/2012-10/msg00287.html Janek Warchoł announced that he'll be less active for several weeks due to University work and other stuff. As you can see, he's not very sucessful at being less active, but he keeps trying. http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-devel/2012-10/msg00225.html 28th issue of the LilyPond Report was released. It focuses on LilyPond User&Developer meeting that took place in Waltrop this August. http://news.lilynet.net/?The-LilyPond-Report-28&lang=en Weekly Summaries For Busy Developers are introduced by Janek Warchoł. Everyone is encouraged to participate; there are some very simple guidelines here: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-devel/2012-10/msg00424.html WHAT NEEDS YOUR FEEDBACK David Kastrup announced a patch set that, among other changes, allows to specify grob properties without #' (for example \tweak length #4 instead of current \tweak #'length #4 ). Some people think this is a big readability improvement. Incorporating this in the docs would mean a huge 7000-line patch, so David asks for as much feedback as possible. "[GLISS] turning strings to symbols" http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-devel/2012-10/msg00383.html "Context.Grob considered as symbol list" http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-devel/2012-10/msg00362.html http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=2883 After many months of development, Marc Hohl's patch introducing new, very powerful barline interface seems to be finished and has been put on countdown. Reviews encouraged. http://codereview.appspot.com/6498052/ Ian Hulin wrote an official syntax proposal: introduce new syntax for tuplets. Instead of writing \times 2/3 { } to get some triplets, you would write \tuplet 3/2 { } (note the reversed order in the ratio). Ian's proposal seems to be supported by those who participated in the discussion. Developers are also wondering how Lily should be informed about details of the ratio (for example noteheads displayed over the tuplet) - it was suggested either to extend \tuplet syntax or have another command; no consensus here. A related idea - supporting arbitraty integer durations (i.e. { a3 b3 a3 } meaning \tuplet 3/2 { a2 b2 a2 } ) - was mentioned, but it will be discussed separately if at all. "[proposal] easy triplets and tuplets - Draft 3" http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-devel/2012-10/msg00203.html cheers, Janek _______________________________________________ lilypond-devel mailing list [email protected] https://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lilypond-devel
