I think David N. makes a good point about the existence of the \magnify and
\scale markup commands.  Maintaining consistency with them is a good idea. 
(I assume we wouldn't want to rename a markup command as well.)  

The \magnify markup command is closer to these functions than \scale, and
avoids any potential confusion between musical scales and scaling sizes
(especially for non-native english speakers), so these things strengthen the
case for magnify.
