Yes.  However, if you install TeXLive as packages from a GNU/Linux
distribution, AFAIK the only thing necessary is to set the `$TEXMFVAR`
variable, if you want to change that.  The additional stuff I've
described in a previous e-mail should have been done by the packager
already (using post-install scripts).
