A mentor system is mentioned here: https://lilypond.org/doc/v2.23/Documentation/contributor/mentors Unfortunately it does not address how one goes about finding such a mentor. Immanuel
Exactly like you did: ask on the list! ;-) That document is a bit out of date, since the person who was organizing mentorship (Graham) is no longer a contributor. These days, we don't have official leadership; development is more like an open venue where people are free to coordinate however they want, and project-wide decisions are consensus-based. If you want to contribute, that's great. Be sure to set up your environment as described on https://lilypond.org/doc/v2.23/Documentation/contributor/working-with-source-code Then, it's best to start with simple tasks, to get acquainted with the structure of the code and our contributing process. There are a lot of easy issues in the tracker at GitLab: https://gitlab.com/lilypond/lilypond/-/issues I'm a contributor, not a developer, and if you want a formal mentor you'll have more luck with someone else. That being said, be free to contact me off-list if you feel the need to -- even though, most of the time, it's best to keep communication public so all can pitch in. Best, Jean
