Hi Simon

What's the output of:

ls -l /usr/local/share/alsa/alsa.conf

You should probably add your user to a group which can read that file.

Why /usr/local?
Don't you have the same file in /usr?

thanks a lot, that fixed most of it! I can now run Fresco, and I’m very
grateful for the developments and developers!

Here’s the terminal output I now get, in case it were interesting:

%%%%%%%%%%%
~$ frescobaldi
ALSA lib conf.c:4580:(snd_config_update_r) Cannot access file
/usr/local/share/alsa/alsa.conf
ALSA lib seq.c:1011:(snd_seq_open_noupdate) Unknown SEQ default
GBM is not supported with the current configuration. Fallback to Vulkan
rendering in Chromium.
%%%%%%%%%%%%

I understand from a little searching that the GBM issue has to do with
(NVIDIA) graphics drivers, though simply getting new drivers didn’t fix it.
And I don’t need to debug MIDI playback for myself for now…

Best regards,
Simon
