Actually, that doesn't seem to be true in general:

[lconrad@tuba tmp]$ ls -l health*
-rw-rw-r-- 1 lconrad lconrad 128069 Apr 8 16:04 health.ps
-rw-rw-r-- 1 lconrad lconrad 38530 Apr 11 10:31 health-ps2pdf13.pdf
-rw-rw-r-- 1 lconrad lconrad 38516 Apr 11 10:31 health-ps2pdf.pdf
-rw-rw-r-- 1 lconrad lconrad 38530 Apr 11 10:32 health-ps2pdfwr.pdf
-rw-rw-r-- 1 lconrad lconrad 53791 Apr 11 10:32 health-ps2ps.ps
-rw-rw-r-- 1 lconrad lconrad 24552 Apr 11 10:33 health-ps2ps-ps2pdf.pdf
[lconrad@tuba tmp]$

health.ps is the original postscript.

health-ps2ps.ps is after processing with ps2ps, and
health-ps2ps-ps2pdf.pdf is the result of running that through ps2pdf.
That's the only one of the pdf files that doesn't show the problem.
