I you use the pianostaff-environment and don't have any knees (beams
crossing the staves) then you can save a lot of space by changing to the
grandstaff-environment.
If you need the pianostaff-environment then you can reduce the distance
between staves in pianostaff with
\paper {
\translator {
\PianoStaffContext
VerticalAlignment \override #'forced-distance = #9
}
}
(The 9 is the distance - you can try with other values)
