Hi,
i'd like that, as i am arranging full orchestral and bigband scores.
Its quite hard to arrange horizontal scores for now, so i write
to paper manually first before i typeset in lilypond. Your tool could
ease my life.
(with horizontal i mean thinking of chords spanning all instruments
instead of single voice lines)
A common (to me) problem is to re-arrange chords through all voices
for i forgot a tone or set one in a incorrect octave. So i have to
go through all files/voices to rewrite one single event. Another one
would be to add an instrument (special occasion concert with star guest:)
to an already finished score.
This implies to set all involved chords in a new manner, which is
now not readable and thus not easy.
(All assuming i don't have current prints on paper)
Also it would be more easy to check the chords/voicings for correctness
without having to render it. This would save lots of time.
(9000 lines of .ly rendered to conductors sheet costs me about
226.999u 4.776s 4:34.96 [Pentium II Xeon/Celeron 334.09-MHz]
which is not a good turnaround time for fixing small mistakes or rearranging
complete chord sections)
Maybe a generic horizontal input system could output <chords> for piano
as well? But this is another story and requires more involvement (parsing).
Bottomline: i vote for some horizontal inputmode in lilypond 3.0
Luis: i'd like to look into your code, if you send it to me in private
or make it public, i'd be happy.
greetings,
/p
