What is it you think doesn't work?

Actually, I think the only reason that you get some strange errors in
your log file is that the bug-lilypond-cygwin script hasn't been
updated since the documentation was moved from /usr/doc/ to
/usr/share/doc/. Try to run the following commands manually:

cp /usr/share/doc/lilypond-1.8.1-1/input/example-1.ly .
ly2dvi -p example-1.ly

(note the dot at the end of the first command, note also that
you can press the TAB key to fill in file names if you have typed
in a few character, press twice to see if you have several options).

You should get an output similar to
----------------------------------
ly2dvi (GNU LilyPond) 1.8.1
Running usr...GNU LilyPond 1.8.1
Now processing: `example-1.ly'
Parsing...
Interpreting music...[3]
Preprocessing graphical objects...
Calculating line breaks...
paper output to `example-1.tex'...

Interpreting music...
MIDI output to `example-1.midi'...
Track ...

Analyzing example-1.tex...
Running latex...
Running dvips...
Running ps2pdf...
DVI output to `example-1.dvi'...
MIDI output to `example-1.midi'...
PS output to `example-1.ps'...
PDF output to `example-1.pdf'...
-----------------------------------

and if you open the file C:\example-1.pdf (at least I think it should end up there) in Acrobat, you should see a nice small example with a
C major scale.

Adrian Peakman wrote:
Download and ran setup.exe from your download site.
Ran setup.exe using all the options you suggest ( used
ftp://cygwin.csie.ntu.edu.tw/pub/cygwin as download source)

Tried to run the sample you suggest...didn't suceed.

Included is the bug.txt as you requested, and the two output files generated by ly2dvi -p test

I'm sorry if it's a stupid mistake: I'm a complete novice at Unix.

Thanks,

Adrian
