Don't try to copy LilyPond files into the ordinary texmf tree!
If you just run 'make install' and make sure to source the
file buildscripts/out/lilypond-profile to set some environment
variables, everything should work out of the box.
Most packages, such as the RPM package, put the file lilypond-profile
in /etc/profile.d/ so it is automatically read as soon as you start
a new shell.

OK folks,

I think I managed to break something. I cleaned out o bunch of old
LilyPond stuff. I've got a freshly compiled v1.9.9 (ChangeLog 1,1398). LilyPond runs fine but if I run 'lilypond-book' I have a problem. I
posted an error that I was getting earlier but I seem to have fixed
that. At the LaTeX stage I was getting a "lilyponddefs not found"
error. I copied all the *.tex files from /usr/src/lilypond to
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/lilypond/ and then I started getting this
error instead:

(/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/graphics/dvips.def)) (contra-guide.aux)
(/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/psnfss/ot1ptm.fd) (lily-393226826.tex
(/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/lilypond/lilyponddefs.tex
! I can't find file `feta20'.
<to be read again>
\global
l.135 \global
\font\fetasixteen = feta16
Please type another input file name:

What did I do wrong and how to I fix it?

Thanks,
