Agreed. Is learning Scheme a subtle requirement? Meaning that to
really understand what going on, learn Scheme. If so, any recommended
reading?

Is there any other documentation other than the tutorial and user
guide? I.e., printed book? I use GNU Emacs on Windows, and haven't
yet tackled elisp, but is Scheme and elisp similar?
