Dear Amelie (and others), just to get this richt: an "alt chord" is a real chord designation and not just "some altered tones". An "alt chord" has 1, b2, #2, 3, b5, b6, b7 and makes for some interesting sounds, both harmonically (no 5, just b5 and #5) and melodically (I especially like having b3 and 3 in this chord).
