I copied

from the on-line manual. But appending \score { \notes { and the
appropriate ending braces to it gives me the error message:
error: syntax error, unexpected CONTEXT, expecting NOTENAME_PITCH or
DRUM_PITCH or '>':
\context Staff < \contex
t Voice = VA {
\voiceOne cis2 b }
followed by more messages about unexpected { braces.
What is wrong here?
