thanks a lot! I tried the following, which unfortunately does not scale
well. However, it is a quick fix:

barPath = #'((moveto 0 -.6)
   (lineto 0 .6)
   (moveto 1.3 -.6)
   (lineto 1.3 .6)
   (closepath))

QuarterBars = {
  \once \override NoteHead.stencil = #ly:text-interface::print
  \once \override NoteHead.text = \markup {
    \combine
      \path #.15 #barPath
      \note #"4" #0
  }
}
