Hi Paul (et al.), > I think the contents of the home page could use some changes as much or more > than style.
Maybe as much… but not more than. ;) > I'd say the home page should focus on new visitors. +1 > Simple things could go a long way, like moving the examples > (http://lilypond.org/examples.html) to the home page. +1 > The long list of news could be moved to its own dedicated page > or minimized to a list of headlines on the home page that link to the full > entries, etc. +1 > The news doesn't change enough to be so prominent That’s a problem that’s quite easy to solve — enough that it would become prominent, and deserve a place on the homepage: in addition to application-specific news (e.g., releases, new features, etc.), we should (IMO) actively advertise the presence of Lilypond “in the wild”. For example, I have multiple performances each month and multiple commissions per year which feature Lilypond engraving exclusively. I would offer that new users might be interested — and potentially swayed — by seeing that Lilypond is not just a hobbyists’ application, but is actually used daily in real-world music-making.
