I agree. I have it open all the time. BTW, I don't use MS Windows. I do use the online version of the docs, I figure it will be more uptodate than the local copy (which I haven't found anyway).
On Debian, it would be found at: /usr/share/doc/lilypond/html/index.html (which redirects to /usr/share/doc/lilypond/html/Documentation/out-www/index.html)
I would suspect it exists in about the same place on other systems. If you're using Pedro's lilypond-snapshot, it would be at
/usr/share/doc/lilypond-snapshot/html/index.html
On my default install of FreeBSD-5.2 there is a
/usr/share/doc which does not contain any lilypond files or subdirectories. There is also
/usr/local/share/lilypond/2.2.2 directory which contains subdirectories or files of dvips, fonts, ls-R, ly, make, ps, python, scm, tex, vim.
And then there is
/usr/local/share/doc/lilypond which contain these files AUTHORS.txt, INSTALL.txt, NEWS.txt, README.txt.
Then there is /usr/local/info/lilypond and /usr/local/lib/lilypond and /usr/local/share/examples all of which do not contain the docs.
Thats it.

Chip
I prefer the html format because it loads more quickly, and I don't really want to print out 241 pages when I will probably only read about 70 or 80 of them.
