That's some of what I do, on a very small scale. Mostly I use it for
things I do with my group, but then I put them on the web, and for
some things people can buy hard copies.

I suppose this is what applies to me -- the real reason I do it is
that most modern editions of Renaissance music aren't close enough to
what the Renaissance musicians had. You can read an article I wrote
about this at <http://www.laymusic.org/arsart.html>. Also of course
there are times when even if you have a good edition, you need the
piece in a different key.

I would guess that lots of people are copyists or arrangers because
they're also directors of a group, which is the case for me.
