Well, ties on other notes seem to be positioned just above or below the
notes (unless they're in a interval/chord) which I think is the
standard. I guess it does boil down to a matter of taste in the end, but
I don't think I've seen ties in a professional score be positioned the
way they are for treble F4, treble E5, etc. in LilyPond, not for single
notes anyway. Either that, or I overlooked them. It just looks
inconsistent and it's slightly grated on me since I first started used
this program in 2014, though only now have I thought to discuss it.
For comparison, I've attached an image I found of how ties usually look
at treble E5.

Hi Robert,
For me, I see nothing strange - I think this is a matter of taste. I
don't have the standard text Behind Bars to quote from, but I feel
this is a matter of personal judgement.
Without resorting to adjusting the TieColumn, you could take a look at
the Tie.details list. There ought to be enough tunability in there to
suit you (although I am well aware of the Tie Crusade. Whatever
happened to that by the way?)
I don't think it is actually an issue, requiring a patch.
Tell us how you want it to look.

Is there any way to fix the tie issue without applying \override
TieColumn.tie-configuration = #'((dir . position)) to every tie
that is positioned like this? And will there be a patch for this?
