Current development version:

nar = ^\markup \whiteout \pad-markup #2 \etc

Older stuff:

nar =
#(define-event-function (parser location m) (markup?)
   #{ ^\markup \whiteout \pad-markup #2 #m #})

Not that much worse, actually.
